Today is officially the first day of summer and the busiest time of year for art shows and craft markets. I’m still a “newbie” when it comes to self promotion and doing the “market circuit”. My full time career as a goldsmith kept me from experiencing the idea of selling myself to the rest of the world. Chances are if you were to walk into the doors of Lessard Coutu Custom Jewellers (my former employer) you were already there for a reason and had some idea of the kind of jewellery you were looking for or to create. Starting this new business on my own, has had some challenges (as well as a ton of rewards). My greatest challenge to date however, is marketing and reaching an audience that truly appreciates my craft.
Social media and the idea of “self promotion” forces me out of my comfort zone, which of course is the challenge. I’m grateful for all of the positive responses and the fantastic (pun intended) following on both my Facebook fan page and instagram!
This weekend : June 25 and 26 Escartment will be at the Queen and Jackson Art and Craft Market located at the Players Guild in Hamilton. I’d be delighted to see you there!
